![]() This is why she prefers to call no-cry sleep solution methods “fewer tears” sleep training. The truth, according to clinical sleep psychologist Lynelle Schneeberg, Psy.D., of Yale School of Medicine, is that no-cry sleep training doesn’t differ all that much from cry-it-out - it simply takes a more gradual approach. But the gap between it and the cry-it-out method is actually not as wide as you might expect. The no-cry sleep training solution is, on the surface, just that. Letting your child cry it out, after all, is a loud and torturous process (for the parents), and one that leads to most parents searching for another, gentler method. ![]() Ferber’s sleep training method is pretty hard to swallow for many new parents. Richard Ferber’s 1985 book, Solve Your Child’s Sleep Problems. ![]() No-cry sleep training is an increasingly popular approach among parents who are horrified by the more popular “cry it out” method, popularized in Dr. ![]() ![]() The print run numbered only “300 copies, put out by friend and fellow expatriate, the writer- publisher Robert McAlmon,” writes Steve King at Today in Literature. Now you have a chance to say it about that most ostensibly masculine of all 20th-century American writers, Ernest Hemingway. “I like the early stuff”: the classic masculine comment to make about the work of a well-known creator, demonstrating as it does the cultural consumer’s dedication, purism, judgmental rigor, and even endurance (given the relative accessibility, in the intellectual as well as the collector’s senses, of most “early stuff”). ![]() ![]() As Maddie confesses the truth to Anna, she unravels the Ormonds’ complex family history, and also details her own life, marked by poverty, fear, sacrifice and lies. The book unfolds in chapters that alternate between Maddie’s story and the prison diaries of Charlotte’s mother, Harriet, who had been held responsible for her daughter’s death. It is to Charlotte’s would-be niece, Anna-pregnant with her first-that Maddie will tell her story as she nears the end of her life in a lonely nursing home in Northern Ireland. The events begin when Maddie McGlade, a former nanny now in her nineties, receives a letter from the last of her charges and realizes that the time has come to unburden herself of a secret she has kept for over seventy years: what really happened on the last day in the life of Charlotte Ormond, the four-year-old only daughter of the big house where Maddie was employed as a young woman. Inspired by a true story of the death of the daughter of an aristocratic Irish family at the end of the nineteenth century, McGill powerfully tells this tale of two women whose lives will become upended by a newly told secret. Vivid, mysterious and unforgettable, The Butterfly Cabinet is Bernie McGill’s engrossing portrayal of the dark history that intertwines two lives. ![]() ![]() ![]() Gibbon offers an explanation for the fall of the Roman Empire, a task made difficult by a lack of comprehensive written sources, though he was not the only historian to attempt it.
